Chongqing's most iconic landmark — 11 floors of stilted buildings on a cliff face
Hongyadong is Chongqing's most iconic building complex — a spectacular stack of traditional Bayu-style stilted wooden buildings (diaojiaolou) built directly into a cliff face above the Jialing River. The 11-story complex glows red with thousands of lanterns at night, creating a scene that went massively viral on social media globally. The complex dates back 2,000 years but the current structure was rebuilt in 2006.
