The farmhouse restaurants in Ping'an and Dazhai villages at the Longji Rice Terraces serve the most authentic Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority cuisine available to visitors. The restaurants are run by local families and use ingredients grown on the terraces — bamboo shoots, wild mountain vegetables, black glutinous rice, and home-raised pork. Eating while looking out over the cascading terraces is an extraordinary experience.
Book a meal with your guesthouse the night before — the farmhouses cook to order. The black glutinous rice (黑糯米) is a Longji specialty not found elsewhere. Eating on the terrace with the rice paddy view is worth the extra cost of the upstairs tables.
