The neon-lit streets with skyscraper backdrops create the 'cyberpunk city' aesthetic that made Chongqing famous online. This is where locals eat after midnight.
Best visited after 10pm when the neon is at full intensity and the crowds are out. The stinky tofu stalls are easy to find by smell. The late-night xiaomian shops (look for the ones with plastic chairs on the pavement) are the most authentic.
